KYAA Auxiliary

Kentucky Angus Auxiliary Ladies of the Bluegrass Scholarship

1. The Kentucky Angus Auxiliary will award two non-renewable scholarships in the amount of $250 each. One to a male recipient and one to a female recipient.

2. Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate/vocational credited college, be a full time student, and be a member of the Kentucky Junior Angus Association or the Kentucky Angus Association.

3. The recipients must enter college no later than the fall semester. If they do not register by the fall semester, the award will be void and not transferred to any other student.

4. The recipients will receive the award after evidence of enrollment (full-time student status) is presented.

5. The scholarship winners will be announced at the Kentucky Junior Preview Show held in June of each year.

The following criteria will be used to select the winner:

  • GPA
  • Kentucky Junior Angus Involvement
  • Extracurricular activities (school and community)
  • Short essay

Application Requirements:

  1. Transcript of grades, certified by HS counselor, or copy of college transcript if recipient is already attending college.
  2. List of Junior Angus activities (State and National Level)
  3. List of extracurricular activities (school and community)
  4. Compose a short essay on one of two topics:
    a. How being a member of the Kentucky Junior Angus Association has influenced your life? OR
    b. How raising Angus cattle has influenced your life?
  5. Applications must be postmarked by May 21, 2011.

We will be focusing on fundraising this year so that we can establish a scholarship for our junior members. In the future, we will be hosting workshops to help our junior members complete their awards and scholarship forms for the KAA and NJAA.

Kentucky Angus Auxiliary Annual Meeting

March 6, 2010

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 am. In attendance were Paula Boyd, Toni Myers, Nita Johnson, Pam Bugg, Lisa Waggener, Charlotte Moss, Lona Sadler, Brandy Kiser, Lynn Flach and Anne Patton-Schubert.

The minutes were read by Brandy Kiser; Pam Bugg made a motion to accept the minutes as read, Lisa Waggener seconded the motion.

Lisa Waggener gave the Treasurer report, the current balance is $1,111.84. The American Angus Auxiliary dues were $180 and were sent off in September. We spent $375 to reimburse 5 juniors for attending the LEAD conference. Toni Myers made a motion to accept the treasurer report, Lynn Flach seconded.

The nominating committee presented the nominees for 2010 candidates; the new candidates are President – Charlotte Moss, Vice President – Brandy Kiser, Secretary – Nita Johnson, Treasurer – Lisa Waggener. Anne Patton-Schubert made a motion to accept the new officers and Pam Bugg seconded.

Paula thanked everyone for their support the last 2 years, she enjoyed being the president. She looks forward to the years to come.

Old Business

Paula shared the State Auxiliary report; it shows what other states dues are and what they do for fund raisers.

Scholarship – Lynn Flach presented the guidelines for The Ladies of the Bluegrass Scholarship. She passed out a copy of the guidelines to everyone. This info will be passed out to juniors and entries are due by May 22nd, 2010. Brandy Kiser made a motion to accept the guidelines for the scholarship as presented, Nita Johnson seconded.

Nikki Bugg sent the Auxiliary a Thank You card for helping with her fees to attend LEAD.

New Business

2 committees were assigned:
The Scholarship committee chair will be Brandy Kiser; Nita Johnson and Anne Patton-Schubert will be committee members.

The Nominating committee chair will be Charlotte Moss; Toni Myers and Brandy Kiser will be committee members.

At the KAA Annual Banquet the Auxiliary auctioned off 3 items; a show stick bag brought $125 purchased by Jim Jasper; an embroidered apron brought $70 purchased by Sammy Ayers (he paid $100 and donated the remaining $30) and a wind shirt brought $130 purchased by Tom McGinnis (he paid $150, donating the remaining $20).

During the Expo the auxiliary raffled off a tub with show supplies/products, it brought $268. Keith Jeffries had the winning ticket!

The due date for annual dues was discussed. It was decided to amend the current dues structure to be the same dates as the AAA – Sept. 1 to Aug. 31 Lisa Waggener made a motion to accept the amendment and Lona Sadler seconded.

Fundraiser – Anne Patton-Schubert reported back from her AAA meeting, they are selling Longaberger. We can also sell it and make a 10% profit. Prices listed on the order form include shipping & handling. The promotion ends in July. Checks are to be made out to Ardyce O’Neill. Each individual who sells will turn in their order directly to Ardyce.

After several ideas were discussed, everyone decided we will have a “dessert auction” during our Preview show in bowling green. Each auxiliary member will make 1 dessert. We will have the desserts auctioned on Thursday sometime before, during or after showmanship. Charlotte will see if Anne Clarke can include this info in the flyers she sends out with registration for the show.

The next meeting will be during the Preview show - Thursday, June 10, 2010 @ 11:30 a.m. at Chaney’s Dairy Barn in Bowling Green. Charlotte Moss will call Chaney’s to arrange.

The meeting was adjourned at 10:07 a.m. Paula Boyd made a motion to adjourn, Nita Johnson seconded.

Kentucky Angus Auxiliary Minutes

March 1, 2008

The 1st meeting of the KY Angus Auxiliary came to order at 9:00 am in New Market Hall, Louisville, KY. In attendance were Paula Boyd, Charlotte Moss, Brandy Kiser, Lisa Waggener, Pam Bugg, Anne Patton Schubert, Lynn Flach, Lona Saddler, Toni Myers, Diana Jefferies and Denise Jeffries.

Paula passed out membership forms. The form will also be available online through the Kentucky Angus Association web site. The fiscal year will be from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 with a deadline for dues on May 1. Brandy Kiser motioned to accept the fiscal year and Lisa Waggener seconded the motion and it carried.

Ideas were talked about to put a membership form in the Angus Topics.

The Rules and By-Laws were reviewed; an amendment was made to add that the secretary shall maintain the membership committee. Lisa Waggener moved to accept the amendment and Anne Patton Schubert seconded.

Anne Clark asked if we would be interested in utilizing an empty page they have on the Kentucky Angus Association web site. Lisa Waggener made a motion to utilize the page and Lona Saddler seconded. Charlotte Moss will get with Anne Clark to set it up. Any ideas need to be sent to Charlotte.

Pam Bugg suggested we need to set a date and time for our next meeting, which will be held in Bowling Green. Thursday afternoon looked good for most everyone, time will be announced.

Ideas for a fundraiser were talked about. Lynn Flach suggested selling split the pot tickets in Bowling Green, it’s easy and cheap. Pam Bugg suggested setting up something at the North American (i.e.: basket or stocking to raffle).

Anne Patton Schubert recommended having a workshop for the juniors to help them fill out their scholarship forms.

Discussion was made about the treasurer being bonded, Teresa will check with Bob Campbell about being bonded.

Lisa Waggener moved to adjourn, Charlotte Moss seconded the motion and adjournment was 9:30 am.
